I’m Rena Tucker.
Artist.
Teacher.
Creativity Coach.
To date, I’ve taught online and in-person art classes to over 3,500 students of all ages.
It’s an understatement to say I love all things creative.
Decades of navigating the ups, downs, joys, pains, challenges and rewards of living the creative life have led me to the conclusion that creativity is not for sissies.
I’m known for having an irreverent sense of humor and contagious enthusiasm.
I’m passionate about helping my students and coaching clients enjoy greater creative freedom, improve their artistic abilities, and experience more joy, fulfillment, and well-being.
I’m also passionate about naps, chardonnay, and the color periwinkle.
“Creativity is not for sissies.”
I’m currently working on:
Reinventing myself as an artist.
Does that surprise you? Actually, it’s not uncommon for artists to decide they’ve gone as far as they can go with one style or genre and it’s time to move in a different direction. However, just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s easy.
I was a commissioned photoreal portrait artist for over twenty years, but I finally burned out. (I like to say I “retired,” but I really just quit.)
After that, I began exploring various possibilities and fought with myself over what my art “should” look like. I’ve got a wild streak that likes to express itself in line/cartoon drawings that kept popping up, only to be smacked down by my snooty portrait past. Recently, I waved the white flag of surrender and gave myself permission to let my art look like whatever it wanted. What showed up Blew. Me. Away.
A fusion of realism and iconic retro style. Who knew?
I’m as shocked as anyone, and now all I want to do is PAINT.
This feeling of exhilaration and passion is what I wish for you.
I believe discovering or reinventing one’s artistic style is a hero’s journey. An artist sets out on a quest to find herself and encounters all sorts of detours, distractions, mirages, setbacks, and short-term victories before she attains her goal of meeting her truest self as a creative, expressive being.
It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s definitely worth the effort.
Your creativity is calling. Will you answer the call?
